After several years of existence, the results of 91/157/EEC Directive as regards collection and recycling of batteries had not been properly implemented by EU Member States. The Commission has consequently worked on revising the Directive, providing for a phasing-out and substitution of cadmium and mercury in batteries and accumulators. This is the final proposal.
